Coles Bay & St Helens, TAS

How about a holiday where uncrowded beaches, crystal clear waters, soft clean sand and secluded bays offer the ideal spot for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, boating and fishing? Then Coles Bay in the Freycinet National Park is for you!  Coles Bay sits at the foot of the granite mountains known as the Hazards and on the edge of the world-renowned Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay. Travelling times are approximately 2 and ½ hours drive from Hobart or Launceston on the east coast of Tasmania. Coles Bay is one of Tasmania's most popular holiday spots for visitors and locals, but it remains a secret to most other Australians and International Visitors.  Nearby Wineglass Bay was voted as one of the top 10 Beaches in the World by a US Magazine together with Friendly Beach being rated as one of the top 10 beaches in Australia.

From there we headed north up the East Coast to St Helens, the remarkable St Helens.   Take the one-hour return walk to St Helens Point where you will find the spectacular Peron Dunes and vast ocean beach. St Helens is a popular destination for fishing, and each March the St Helens Game Fishing Classic attracts an increasing number of interstate visitors. Beneath the surface St Helens is popular amongst divers for its extensive kelp forests and underwater caves. From St Helens you can explore stunning Binalong Bay and the Bay of Fires, which extend to Eddystone Point. The Bay of Fires (named by British Captain Tobias Furneaux, who only saw the smoke from the fires of the local Kunnara Kuna tribe) is a coast of white sandy beaches dotted with giant granite boulders. This is somewhere you dont want to miss out on staying in! Definately recommend a week in St Helens.
